Deafblind Awareness Week

Deafblind Awareness Week
20-26 June 2009

Each year, Deafblind Awareness Week is held internationally on the last week of June to celebrate Helen Keller’s birthday on 27 June (1880.)

This is an important time of the year for Able Australia, as we focus on creating awareness and a better understanding of deafblindness to the community and local Government.

Friends & Family Fun Day

Saturday 20 June 11.00am-3.00pm
Able Australia, 616 Riversdale Road, Camberwell

Deafblind Awareness Week will be launched at the Friends & Family Fun Day, which has been our tradition for the past 10 years. Our Patron, and Channel 9 News Presenter, Mr Peter Hitchener, will honour us by opening the day’s proceedings.

The Friends & Family Fun Day is a relaxing and fun event providing social and networking opportunities for people we support, their family and friends.

This year, our guests will enjoy a sumptuous BBQ lunch, plus be able to participate in a wide-range of fun and interactive activities, including massage therapy, KOKO BLACK chocolate tastings, mural painting, jewelry making, and Harley Davidson rides!

We will also reach out to the local community who will be invited to attend to learn more about Deafblindness. A free Introductory Auslan Class will be provided.
