Impact

About 90% of the information we receive about the world comes through vision and hearing. A person living with deafblindness uses residual vision and/or hearing, touch, smell and taste to make sense of the world.

The impact of dual sensory loss varies and can include difficulties with:

Ø       Communicating with others

Ø       Orientation and mobility

Ø       Access to information and everyday experiences

Ø       Independence and daily living skills

Ø       Education and training

Ø       Relationships

Ø       Financial access to aids and equipment

Ø       Employment

This can result in feelings of:

Ø       Grief and loss

Ø       Isolation

Ø       Frustration

Ø       Fatigue

Ø       Low confidence and self-esteem
