                    Deafblind Education Program officially launched

The Able Australia community, including staff, volunteers and the people we support gathered on Thursday 25 June to celebrate the official launch of the Deafblind Education Program.

Teresa Zolnierkiewicz, Head of Philanthropy, ANZ Trustees, commented that "The William Buckland Foundation seeks to fund projects that can only flourish with the support of charitable foundations, and that are tackling social issues systemically. This program reaches out to all primary school students in Victoria to raise awareness of the needs and the strengths of the deaflblind, and the importance of supporting integration into the community."

Able Australia CEO, Celestine Hare said that “Deafblind Awareness Week is celebrated internationally each year, to coincide with Helen Keller’s birthday which was on June 27 1880. Helen Keller was an American author, activist and lecturer and the first deafblind person to graduate from college.
“Deafblind Awareness Week runs from June 20 to June 27 this year.  The event aims to raise general awareness in the community about issues relating to the dual disability of deafblindness.

The development of the Able Australia Deafblind Education Programs was to achieve exactly that. To raise awareness of deafblindness and to communicate to a large cross section of people; students, parents, the educational sector and government.

We are very grateful for the support of the William Buckland Foundation and the ANZ Trustees.
