Why did we rebrand?
There are a number of reasons why we have changed our name….
1) One of the most important reasons is that the new name focuses on the ability of all people, not on the disability.
2) We are a strongly people-focused organisation and our new name (Able Australia) celebrates everything that the people we support are able to achieve, everything that we are able to do in supporting them and everything that the greater community is able to do as well.
3) We are also making sure that our current name best reflects our full range of skills and services.
In the past we have had a lot of feedback from families, the Government, health groups and the public telling us that our previous name, The Deafblind Association, led people to think that we only work with sensory impairment.
But in fact, we support people with all types of multiple disabilities, including those with deafblindness. We still remain 100% committed to supporting people with deafblindness; but we are expanding and we are now able to support more people in the community.
4) We are also expanding our services into other parts of Australia and we want everyone to know that this is an organisation for all Australians to access.
Why Able Australia?
Able Australia focuses on the abilities of all of the people we support, not their disability or impairment. At the end of the day we are all working towards an ‘Able Australia’, full of individuals who are able to lead lives of self-fulfillment. Able Australia Services is working towards creating that able community.
Most of all, we want all people to be able to communicate, able to participate, able to access resources, able to reach self-fulfillment, and most importantly - able to connect with the greater community.
Able Australia means all of these things to us and hopefully to the community.
