Below are some practical ways to make information accessible to people who are deafblind:
-
Check with the individual or their support person what format they would like the information to be presented in
-
If a person uses Braille, information can be transcribed and produced by using a Braille embosser connected to a computer
-
If a person can read large print, the font size in a document can easily be increased
-
Telephone typewriter (TTY) devices communicate directly with each other similar to a conventional telephone
-
Information can be recorded onto a cassette or video tape
-
There are interpreter and note taking services
-
The Internet and mobile phone SMS (short messaging service) are used
-
Services can assist by providing clear signs at the front of the organisation, around and in lifts, toilets and reception areas.
